Menus

hi all,
we use several different software programs to lock down our public internet
workstations including the WinU menu by bardon. (i've also tested and like
everybody's menu builder by carl as well) menus are a wonderful way to
diminish the need for extensive user instruction as resources can be clearly
organized and labeled in the menuing environment. i also like menus because
they send a visual message to our patrons that these computers may not
"behave" as they do in their homes or offices. when we received our gates
library foundation computers (which were locked down with the nt policy
editor) we ended up with two different systems in our library. one with a
menu, and one with icons on the desktop. to work around this (at least until
we complete our review of menus that work on NT and 95 pcs) i altered our
library's web site to appear like a menu with buttons organizing our online
resources (since fortunately most of our stuff is web-based subscriptions)
i really like the idea that someone else on this list posted about having an
internal and external home page and have been re-working our site based on
that concept for the last week. has anyone else done this? i would
appreciate taking a look at existing examples. thanks
