Hello WEB4LIBbers,

I am investigating staffing situations in systems and network support
divisions in academic institutions. I am looking for ratios such as number
of systems support staff to number of users (including number of
students/staff/faculty); number of systems support staff to number of
workstations, etc.

I'm writing from a college with 1100 FTE students and would be interested
in data from institutions of a similar size, but any info would be helpful.
We are in the (I think) unusual situation of having systems and network
services for our entire Institute fall under the umbrella of Library and
Information Resources. Our Library Help Desk receives questions from
throughout the campus concerning software/hardware/email/network problems,
as well as reference and research questions.

Also, if anyone can recommend recent publications which deal with this
staffing question, specifically for systems and network support or
administration in a college or university setting, it would be appreciated.

Thank you.
