Remember the strange AltaVista results of last month on the Santa Fe searches? At that time searching 'santa fe' in their Simple Search did not always retrieve 'Santa Fe'. While that is now fixed, other inconsistent behavior continues. I have now set up an AltaVista Inconsistencies page <http://www.notess.com/search/features/av/inconsistent.shtml> on my Search Engine Showdown site. It includes the capability for adding new reports of inconsistencies.
Also, I'd like to invite members of Web4Lib interested in Internet search engines to subscribe to the new Search Engine Showdown lists, newsletter, or join in the forums. See <http://www.notess.com/search/lists/> for subscription information and more details.
   * search-l: a discussion list about using search engines
   * showdown-news: the Search Engine Showdown online newsletter
   * Forums: Web-based search engine discussion and announcements
All three of these are designed to focus on Internet search engines from the users' point of view (as in librarians, information professionals, and other advanced searchers) rather than dealing with site promotion or positioning in search engines.
