Free mailing list services

I've been thinking about this since I read a column about the free list
services in Windows Magazine (2/99, 29-30).  My boss had just asked me about
e-mailing our calendar of events.  The thought of managing a mailing list made
me recoil, but these sound fairly low-maintenance.  Are any libraries using
them?  Say, for a one-way announcement service?
