I too am doing an investigation into this topic, but am mainly concerned with engineering
libraries and their web design. One of the problems that I am having is that most of the
libraries I am interested in only have intranet pages. So I can't go and look at their
sites. My site also is on an intranet behind a firewall. I am going to try to get some of
those librarians to send me printed copies of their sites and I can share those with you and
can also summarize the design characteristics for the list if there is interest.

If you have a technical library and would like to fax/snail mail me your web site opening page
and any other significant pages, please do so (contact info at bottom of message).

I also have a few questions for those of you who are interested in participating:

1. Is your site intranet only, not accessible to noncompany personnel?
2. Do you have any IS support? If so, what kind?
3. How does your site fit in with the company intranet/extranet?
4. What is your role in creating/maintaining the library's site?
5. Are there other sites that you manage? (please list)
6. Do you have future plans for your site or do you have a strategic plan
that you are following?
7. What are the most helpful books/URLs you have found for
maintaining/creating web sites?
8. If you were limited to three things a library web site must have on it,
what would they be and why?

Jennifer, I would also be happy to work with you offline and share information on this
subject.

The few URLs I did receive follow:

Web site at the Seminole campus of SPJC: http://seminole.spjc.cc.fl.us/cyberlib/

City of clearwater public library (while a public library page, it has a nice, clean design):
http://www.ci.clearwater.fl.us/cpl/

Thanks,
cd

Librarians like to be given trouble;
they exist for it, they are geared to it.
For the location of a mislaid volume,
an uncatalogued item, your good librarian
has a ferret's nose. Give her a scent
and she jumps the leash,
her eyes bright with battle.
