Librarian for Statewide Business and Economic Development Services
Term position through March 2001(possible extension for one year)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION     Under a contract between Five Colleges, Inc. and the
Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, the University of
Massachusetts Library will provide a business and economic development
service, create a digital library of resources, provide continuing education
in business reference for librarians, and develop and implement a Speakers
Bureau.

QUALIFICATIONS     Master's degree in library science from an American
Library Association-accredited library and information studies program.
Educational background in Business or Economics, with MBA preferred; or
three years of experience in business or economic development related
reference work.  Minimum of five years of experience as a professional
librarian in an academic, research or specialized library or information
broker using all publication formats.  Demonstrated successful experience
dealing with federal and/or state agencies and business and trade
organizations, and experience working in collaborative settings, including
cooperation among multiple agencies.  Experience developing effective
materials and conducting successful training programs for users of business
and economic development information resources.  Demonstrated strong project
management skills.  Demonstrated experience with Web development.  Extensive
knowledge of reference and information resources in all formats relevant to
business and economic development.  Strong service orientation and the
ability to interact effectively and work productively and collaboratively
with a variety of colleagues and clients.  Demonstrated high level of
written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly
in presentations.  Experience with database applications and the integration
of those applications into a web environment is desirable.

SALARY:   Starting at $40,000 and commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
