Seating remains available for the OCLC Institute's new seminar, "Knowledge
Access Management for Reference Librarians," and the special early-bird
registration rate is now extended to all registrants.

Based on the popular Knowledge Access Management seminar, this offering
focuses on trends and forces in resources description and their impact on
reference librarianship. Topics include traditional and alternative methods
of resource description including MARC, SGML-based methods, and metadata,
with an emphasis on the Dublin Core.

Gain hands-on experience evaluating Web site architectures and their role in
knowledge management, and then create Dublin Core records and pathfinders
for improved access and reference uses.

Then, contribute to a plenary discussion on the future of reference
librarianship through a facilitated exercise in scenario building. Define
reference need and opportunities, key success factors, barriers to success,
and possible next steps.

Finally, join in small-group discussions and presentations examining
reference services within different spheres of concern, and develop an
action plan to serve as the basis for your Distance Learning project.

Lecture, plenary discussion, guided lab exercises, small group discussions
and presentations, action planning and distance learning--an intensive two
and one-half days for those who want to help clarify the challenges and
fashion the solutions for future reference services in libraries.

Your registration includes all materials, system access, and instruction; a
tour of OCLC; lunch on days 1 & 2, refreshments at all breaks; and
complimentary transportation to and from Port Columbus International
Airport. If you stay at the conference hotel you receive van transportation
to and from OCLC and a continental breakfast.
