Systems Administrator: SL-4, $38,000-$48,000, College Libraries.

Description of Duties: Serve as the computer systems technical expert within
the College Libraries’ operation. Responsible for high-level expert
technical supervision of design, implementation, integration, upgrade and
programming of the Libraries’ computer-based systems. Provide expert
technical support for Libraries’ local Web pages and services. Achieve
maximum service efficiencies and integration of all networked applications
within the College Libraries, including integration of Web/Z39.50
capabilities with Libraries’ new Web-based online catalog. Play a key
technical consulting role within Libraries’ Automation Team. Organize and
manage long-term technical projects with minimal supervision. Work closely
with SUNY Geneseo librarians and Computing & Information Technology staff.

Qualification: Required. Bachelor’s Degree, plus 2-3 years of relevant
experience. Thorough knowledge of the World Wide Web and Web technology.
Experience with HTML, XML and Web page creation. Strong background in
computer programming, including such languages as Perl, C++, Java, or
VBScript. Strong skills using Windows NT, Windows 95/98 and Unix operating
systems. Ability to work well with the Libraries and Computing & Information
Technology staff, commercial hardware/software vendors and regional/national
library computer organizations, such as OCLC, DRA, etc. Organizational,
planning, problem solving and interpersonal skills required to effectively
manage complex, long-term technical projects. Desired: Working knowledge of
TCP/IP and Ethernet topology and routing equipment/software. Training in VMS
operating systems. Previous experience with integrated library systems,
OCLC, and vendors’ database products targeted to academic libraries, such as
Silver Platter, IAC, UMI.
