SENIOR SYSTEM ENGINEER (99PV0064)
University Libraries,

Plans, directs and manages activities for the
Library Automation Department.

Coordinates the installation, configuration,
testing, administration and maintenance of
complex computer applications systems such
as the library OPAC, UCLID, and its networked
connectivity to OhioLINK as well as the Novell
LAN and the library web server.

Acts as a technical advisor to end-users
regarding hardware and software configurations.

Develops materials for end-user training in the
use of various types of hardware, operating systems,
networks and application software.

Manages/facilitates the installation/implementation
of new software modules/enhancements as they are
integrated into UCLID and the library web server.

Interfaces/ensures the compatibility of various
types of hardware, operating systems and applications
software.

Plans/manages/coordinates the installation and
support of microcomputer workstations for the Access
Services Division.

Min. Qual: Bachelors or equivalent combination of
education and experience; 5 years experience in
systems programming/applications which should include
maintenance in all phases of operating/applications
systems and/or teleprocessing systems and experience
with systems utilities, documentation and training.

The ideal candidate will possess 2 yrs. experience
with system administration or an integrated library
information system for complex multi-site networked
environment; 1 yr. exp. with web server administration
on a Unix platform; 2 yrs. administrative experience
at a departmental level; library systems administration
exp. with Innovative Interfaces Inc. Innopac under Unix
in a multi-building network; exp. in an academic library;
basic knowledge of Unix system administration,
preferably OSF/I and/or Digital Unix on a Dec Alpha
platform, and a working knowledge of Novell 3.x and
4.x TCP/IP, DOS/Windows/Win 95 and Macintosh including
general familiarity with hardware platforms of same.
