Trick or Treat - Halloween At The Library

As the scary day moves closer we put a plea on some of our
favorite listservs* asking for libraries to tell us about their
special Halloween Web pages. It would be seasonally chilling if
no one had responded, but we report, with a sigh of relief, that
libraries do indeed answer when we ring their cyber-doorbell.
Here are some or our favorite "treats" — no "tricks" allowed:

Note: The following list is also available online at:

•Anne Prestamo forwarded to me your message asking for Halloween

•....I'm a YA librarian at the Ogden Library in Spencerport NY
and the YA group I advise has done a big Halloween party for the
past three years. You can see photos from 1996 and 1997
http://www.ogdenny.com/Library/Teen/hallow.htm

This year, our party is Saturday 10/24 and we're doing a haunted
house along with storytelling. Last year, we had around 450 kids
and parents at the library between 2 and 3:30; the year before
we had around 350.

We're one of the only free Halloween programs in the area (which
includes Rochester, NY). The ideas all come from the kids in the
YA group, and they also do a good part of the work involved.
All in all, it's always a blast!
