One extended comment and then I'll skoot.

Thomas points out "conventional wisdom"
from *well-recognized typography sources*...

However <clearing throat>
I am coming at it from the reading/specialty
grad. MS Reading and experiential practical side.

So rather than citing typographers (generally those
who may have publishing interests/concerns) I say
check the literature replete in the Reading Ed. and
dyslexia literature. You may be surprised in the
converse of "conventional" thinking of typographers.

What is generally accepted as "proven," true, etc.
can indeed be disproven. Had we listened to "conventional"
wisdom about physics, Newtonian would be the only
thinking about thinking we would do and forget about
how Einstein rewrote physics history for example.

So... reconsider, research, do studies with dyslexia (subjects and
issues) if you indeed need a good thesis or dissertation topic
and are interested in the fonting/readability paradox.

Later colleagues. Work... work... work to do for class.

BTW Thomas I did took many reading courses
right there in Ohio and neighboring PA. Ohio U and
California U. to be exact ;^} Greetings Buckeyes but
the VOLs have a better football team!

Again, we may want to take this offlist because not
everyone may want to see the friendly "debate" elongate.
