need for new list?

Like others, I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand, it's frustrating to
wade through piles of messages about definitions that could be answered by
consulting any reasonable dictionary, so the idea of a separate tech list
is appealing. On the other hand, there's no guarantee that the same thing
wouldn't happen there, too, especially given that no moderator seems to be
coming forth. If we really, really try to stay on topic (and maybe avoid
beating dead horses, like filtering) I don't see any reason why programming
issues couldn't be handled on web4lib without the traffic becoming
unberable. The two most compelling arguments for this are 1) avoiding Yet
Another List and 2) the fact that tech topics are explicitly within this
list's domain. I'm also a little uncomfortable at the steamroller approach
that's being taken with this (a standards document after one day's
discussion?). Of course that's what you need to do if you *really* want
something now, but I vote against a new list. How many of us would just end
up subscribing to both lists anyway?
