Position: Law Librarian I/ II: Reference/Technology Librarian.  

Recruitment: June 15 - July 6, 1998.

Qualifications: A Master#s Degree in Library Science from an ALA
accredited college or university and two years of professional library
experience appropriate to the position, or an equivalent combination of
education and job related experience which provides the required
knowledge, skills and abilities. 

Preferred: Strong research and computer skills, familiarity with a Novell
LAN and Windows NT, considerable experience with troubleshooting
and maintaining computer hardware and software, knowledge of web
page maintenance and the Internet, strong service orientation, electronic
research experience, and good oral and written communication skills.

Essential Functions: This position requires a self-motivated, creative
librarian to assist in administering and maintaining electronic resources
and systems in the library. This includes: managing, maintaining, and
developing CD-ROM applications, assisting in administering the NetWare
4.x LAN, maintaining staff and public PC software and hardware, and
assisting in maintaining the library#s web page and Internet-based
resources.  This position also requires participation in traditional
reference desk services including responding to in-person and telephone
requests from patrons and assisting with public and staff training on the
use of the library#s computer applications. 

Must be highly service oriented, able to effectively handle the pressures
and demands of systems problems, demonstrate expertise in the use of
electronic resources, Internet access, client/server applications, and
microcomputer software. Specifically, experience working with
Windows 95/NT and operating a CD-ROM LAN. Must have the ability to
answer questions at a busy reference desk and possess excellent oral
and written communication skills.

The Superior Court Law Library, a department of the Superior Court of
Arizona in Maricopa County, is a public law library serving the citizens,
bench, and bar of Maricopa County. The Law Library has its main facility
in Downtown Phoenix and a branch library in the Court#s Southeast
facility in Mesa. The library has over 120,000 print volumes and 75,000
microform volumes.  The library has 12 public computers offering access
to over 30 networked CD-Rom#s and the Internet and is currently
completing the implementation of Ameritech#s Horizon integrated online

Salary: $28,496.00 - $30,576.00 annually.

SPECIAL SALARY INFORMATION:  At the discretion of the hiring
authority, those applicants with specialized skills or experience relative
to the performance of the position may qualify for Reference/Technology
Librarian II (starting salary of $30,576 annually) providing they have a
Master#s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college or
university and three years of professional library experience, or an
equivalent combination of education and job related experience which
provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
