POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Winnefox Automated Library Services Consortium (WALS)

Automation Specialist

The Winnefox Library System is looking for an Automation Specialist to
become part of its Library System automation team.  The Winnefox Library
System is located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  WALS is a library automation
consortium, operated under the auspices of Winnefox.  By 1998/9 there will
be 13 automated libraries in our system.  The DRA Classic automation
system, which is based on the DEC OpenVMS operating system, has been in
use since 1985.  We are beginning the conversion of this network from VT
terminals to a PC-based WAN using the NT 4.0 operating system and moving
from a frame-relay network to a T-1 network using state telecommunications
services.  Planning is underway for some parts of the network to be
fiberoptic.  WALS is implementing DRA's Web2 catalog, hosts member library
web sites, and uses DRA's UDMS report writer. 

Qualifications-Required:

Must have a minimum of 2-3 years experience performing technical support
for networked PC's, or 2-3 years experience performing technical support
on a library automation system.  Must have substantial experience working
with Windows 95/NT, workstation and server or DEC VMS.  Must have good
problem-solving skills, excellent verbal and written skills, and must be
able to handle details and understand complex and interrelated processes. 
Must be able and carry out and develop written and oral instructions. 

Qualifications-Preferred:

Preference given to prior experience with trouble-shooting computer LANs
and WANs and network printers or experience with a DRA classic system,
especially at the operator level.  Also highly desirable is experience
with web server implementation and development, knowledge of PC
applications, including word processing and spreadsheets, and knowledge of
telecommunications technology. 

Education:

Undergraduate degree in computer science/information technology 
preferred.  Associate degree in above areas or Masters in Library Science 
will be considered with appropriate experience.

Special Requirements:

Must obtain and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver's license.  Must have
the ability to respond to trouble calls through out the Winnefox library
system which includes traveling to all member libraries in a personal
vehicle.  Must be able to climb stairs, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, and
occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. 

Salary and Benefits:

The job description and salary range for this new WALS position will
depend on the education, skills, and previous experience of the successful
candidate.  The expected range is $32,945 to $40,246 for a qualified
candidate.  Individuals with less than the stated qualifications who
apply, will be considered at a lower salary range.  Winnefox offers a

12 days of sick leave and 7.5 paid holidays.
