Trustee Appointment


TITLE:   Systems/Media Librarian

REPORTS TO:  Librarian of the College

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Coordinates planning for and delivery of electronic information
services for the Library.

2.  With the help of two student assistants, supports library systems,
software and hardware, including the Library’s servers and personal
computers.

3.  Works with appropriate individuals to implement systems enhancements
and modifications.

4.  Consults, advises, and assists library departments on individual
projects as required (e.g. SGML/EAD encoding, image database
maintenance, HTML, Passport for Windows, and assorted foreign language
instructional applications.)

5.  Takes responsibility for the Media Center and supervises its
Coordinator.  Collaborates with the Language Laboratory Coordinator.

6.   Develops training and documentation for library systems as needed

7.   Supports Five College systems and multimedia initiatives. 
Collaborates with the Five College Media Technology Specialist.

8.   Serves as the principal advisor to the Librarian of the College on
library issues relating to networking, hardware, systems, and media.

9.   Supports the College’s participation in the Innovative Interfaces
Five College Online System, and serves as the College’s systems
representative. 
        
10.  In consultation with the Librarian of the College, the Director of
Information Technology, and the Media Committee, proposes equipment
purchases for the Library, including the Media Center.  

11. Works closely with College information providers in planning for
student/faculty access to computing services across the campus. 
Represents the Library on appropriate systems and media committees.

12.   Serves up to five hours per week at the Reference Desk.

13.  Other duties as required.



REQUIREMENTS:

Masters degree in library and information science

Familiarity with Windows 95, Windows NT, HTML, and SGML.  Knowledge of
PERL/CGI and JAVA desirable.

Supervisory experience in library systems and/or media

Effective analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and oral and
written communication skills.  Ability to work coopratively with people
within and outside the Library.
