 LIBRARIAN 4
 ELECTRONIC SERVICES TECHNICAL MANAGER

SALARY:
$27,988.58 - $33,269.06
A paraprofessional technical position under the general direction of
Head of Reference and Readers Services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provides support for desktop systems, NT, Novell LAN management,
integration of new technologies into library operations, Web-related
technical tasks.  Ensures security of computers, peripherals and
software throughout the library.  Ensures interoperability of LAN and
WAN, Internet and applications mounted on these networks.  Installs,
configures, documents and monitors hardware, software, peripherals,
IP, Windows NT, C/W MARS, LAN/WAN interfaces.  Advises staff on
hardware, software, and peripherals for purchase, preparing
specifications for bidding and reviewing vendor responses.  Works with
vendors in installation, troubleshooting and repair of equipment. 
Investigates problems and takes corrective action in a timely manner. 
Works with the Reference Department's Technology Team, the liaison
with C/W MARS, and other library staff as needed.  Assists staff who
are creating user documentation by ensuring accuracy.  Stays informed
of advances in library computer technology.  Contributes to staff
development of technological skills.  Prepares reports and compiles
statistics.  Performs other tasks, as assigned, consistent with the
functions of the work unit and level of responsibility.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATION STANDARDS FOR PERFORMING ESSENTIAL JOB
FUNCTIONS: · Ability to communicate clearly and knowledgeably with
non-technical library staff in interpreting technical instructions. ·
Ability to work cooperatively in a rapidly changing environment. ·
Ability to collect and analyze data to resolve technical problems and
to select appropriate hardware and software for library applications.
· Must regularly lift and move equipment weighing up to 60 lbs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:	Undergraduate degree preferred, high school diploma or
equivalent.  Minimum of two computer science courses.  Knowledge of
Windows 95, TCP/IP, common PC software, Local Area Networks, Internet.
Experience:	Two years experience with PC's in a network environment.
