But...changing *your* monitor settings doesn't affect anyone else viewing
your site.  At many sites, I suspect, the time is coming to decide whether
supporting users with 256-color displays is worth a lot of effort--or any
at all.  If it is, you either need to allow browsers to work their
dithering magic or massage all images that coexist on a page into the same
color palette.  Any web-savvy graphics program should be able to do that.
