Applications are being accepted for one (1) position at the Branford
Price Millar Library, Portland State University, Portland, Oregon:

Title/Rank/Appointment:  Systems Librarian, Assistant Professor, 12
month, tenure-track appointment

Responsibilities and Duties: The Systems Librarian is responsible for
the planning, development, management, and operation of the Library's
computer systems. The position reports to the Director of the
Library. In cooperation with the other departments in the Library and with
Campus offices, committees, and departments, the position will provide
leadership for the planning, development, implementation, maintenance, training,
documentation, and evaluation of the Library's computer systems,
including the infrastructure and operating system of the integrated
library system (Unicorn), hardware and software used throughout the
Library, the Library's LANs, Web server, and various CD-ROM
products. The systems librarian supervises one FTE professional
staff, chairs the Library's Systems Group and serves as the Library's
liaison to the University Office of Information Technology (i.e. computer
services), and other groups, committees, and institutions as appropriate. This
position administers the Library's systems budget and any other funds or
allocations dedicated to systems and oversees purchasing of systems components.

Qualifications: MLS or equivalent from ALA-accredited program. A
minimum of three years professional experience in management and
maintenance of computing systems in an academic library. Demonstrated
experience with integrated library systems, Novell, UNIX, Windows
95/NT, and with management of the interface with a bibliographic
utility. Knowledge of networking and client/server applications and the
developments and trends in information delivery applicable to a
university campus. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated
teaching/training skills and strong commitment to responsive service.
Excellent interpersonal and management skills, ability to prioritize
tasks and assignments.

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, 12-month tenure-track
position with a minimum annual salary of $40,000 effective July 1, 1998.
Benefits include 22.5 paid vacations days and 12 paid sick leave days per
year, a flexible benefits program, staff tuition rate at Portland State
University, and several retirement program options.
