IRC channel set up for academic librarians

I have set up an IRC channel for academic librarians.  The channel is:
#academiclibrarians

I am new to IRC so I am still learnign where to proceed from here.  Any
assistance would be appreciated.  I am using mIRC for IRC.  I also use
ICQ and PowWow for personal chat.
