               OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY
       VIRGINIA BEACH CAMPUS LIBRARIAN

RESPONSIBILITIES: This new position reports to the Head, Access
Services Department.  Develops, implements, and manages library
services for the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center, scheduled to
open Fall 1998. This position is responsible for planning and
implementing programs for this new Center, including providing 
support services such as reserves and document delivery, establishing
work relationships with Center administration, faculty, and staff as
well as main library staff; and developing the electronic resources
needed to support the Center's curriculum.  The position will provide
reference services to Center students, develop and carry out an
instructional program centered on electronic resources and services,
and will carry out systems and digital tasks such as equipment
maintenance or participation in web page development.  The position
will supervise hourly employees such as student assistants as they
become available.  Weekend and evening hours as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:   
Required:  An ALA accredited library science degree; excellent
teaching skills, verbal and written communication skills; experience
in effective team/project management; ability to related in a tactful,
effective manner to faculty, staff, and students; experience in
working with information technology; understanding of and commitment
to the value of distance education; ability to work independently.
Preferred: successful project management experience; supervisory
experience; program development experience; program implementation
experience; some professional  library experience

Candidates will be asked to give a 10-15 minute presentation on a
relevant topic.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: $29,000.  Good benefits

LIBRARY:  Overall library staff of 25 librarians and 46 support staff 
serve campus community and significant off-campus programs with
collections of 700,000 volumes and 6,500 current subscriptions.  A
building expansion of 76,000 sf is in progress.  Library uses
Innovative Interfaces.
