EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY

   J.  Eugene Smith Library

Three vacancies due to retirement.
All 12-month tenure track. All require an ALA 
accredited Master's degree or its equivalent: a second graduate degree in an 
appropriate subject area is preferred.
Oral and written communication skills as well
as teamwork and ability to work with others required. A new state-of-the-art
127,000 sq. ft library will be completed in Oct., 1998.

1.  Head of Technical Services and Collection Development Officer.
    Reports to the
    Director of Library Services.  Coordinate planning and operations
    of technical services in acquisitions, cataloging, preservation,
    serials, gifts, etc. Serve as
    Collection Development Officer working with various constituencies
    to acquire traditional and electronic resources.
    Demonstrated competence and significant
    experience in these areas and knowledge of new technologies. Public services
    experience a plus.

2.  Public Services Librarian--Head of Access Services and User Education
    Librarian.
    Reports to the Director or his/her designee.
    Coodinate planning and operations
    in circulation, reerves (traditional and electronic), resource sharing, and
    outreach efforts.
    Assume leadership role in an active user education program.
    Demonstrated competence in the mentioned areas and significant experience in
    integrated systems (Smith Library has III). Teaching experience a plus.     

3.  Public Services Librarian--Curriculum Center and Special Collections.
    Reports to the Director or his/her designee.
    Coordinate planning and operations of the
    Curriculum Center and Special Collections (including
    at present the Archives,
    Career Collection, etc.) Support reference/information desk(s) needs.  K-12
    experience a plus.
