Problems loading Word/Excel documents from Netscape

Hello all,

I've been reading some of the past postings on launching applications from
within a browser, in this case, Netscape 3.01.

I cannot install any other applications onto the fileserver, such as the
w3launch, which would probably solve my problem. The problem is that if I
have a link to a word file, such as

file:///l|/siteinfo/editthis.doc

and the user clicks on it, the document loads up fine in Word and the user
is able to make the necessary changes to the file and save it back to the
original directory and file.

However, if the user closes the document and decides to load it up again
via Netscape, Word pops up but the filename resembles something of a
temporary filename and the directory is their default word data directory.

I noticed that if a user opens any file for the first time, it works
correctly. Subsequent openings of the file uses a temporary name and uses
their default data directory. This isn't good since users will click save
and it will save it to the temporary file and not to the actual file, thus
any changes they do will be lost. Closing Netscape and loading it again
corrects the problem, but just for the first opening of the file.

If anybody has a solution to this, whether it be some sort of javascript,
please let me know.

Thank you,
