I'm with you.

The new TLDs do not make sense to me.  What .com would want to move to .firm 
or .store?  And do users think in terms of "firms"? That is not a word I use 
very often to refer to businesses.  Why not .inc or .ltd, for that matter? 
  What's the difference between .net and .web?  What if a .art is also a 
.com and provides it's products/services via the .net/.web?  How are we 
helped by that?  If .info, why not .lib for libraries?  And what if the 
.info sells its information?  Is it a .com/.firm/.store?  Who decides, and 
what are the ramifications of such decisions?

Perhaps new TLDs are needed to handle the crush of demand for IP addresses. 
 New "number spaces" are needed.  That could be, but this solution seems to 
provoke more questions than it answers.
