NT4 and IIS2 access/permissions/security (fwd)

you're right, it more than likely is something
silly. running MIIS on NT 4.0 is actually pretty easy.
but in NT the security features are much more
robust than 95, so there are many potential pitfalls.

firstly, are you running NTFS?

secondly, how did you configure your web server? are
you coming in using the anonymous (IUSR_machine name)
method? its probably the default and certainly the
easiest.

remember that the group that the IUSR account is in
must have read-access to the wwwroot directory.

th IUSR account must have log on locally and log on to
server privs (maybe others).

did you mess with the password for iusr? it needs to be
the same in both the miis applet and the user manager.

the ftp and www services are quite separate from each other,
messing up one shouldnt necessarily mess up the other. at least
as far as i can tell.

did you check the advanced tab in the iis service manager app?
is it open for all users?

im unfortunately not sitting at my server right now, so i
cant offer many more suggestions. odds are your IUSR account
is not in a group that has the right access to the wwwroot
directory OR you've removed a user right that is necessary...

i suggest you play around a bit -- if nothing helps, send me
email.
