WYSIWYG HTML - turning off extensions

The sad experience I've had with various editors is that they have no
conception of the variations in HTML. For any specific editor, HTML = the
set of tags it implements, regardless of where they've originated. HoTMetaL
(isn't that cyber-capitalization run amok!) has a distinct advantage in
that it, perhaps alone among editors, validates the document against a DTD.
On the other hand, the default DTD it uses is itself a conglomeration of
various flavors of HTML. I don't have HoTMetaL Pro yet, so I'm not sure
whether you can substitute your own  (or 'standard') DTD.

I hope someone can prove me wrong here - *are* there any truly
HTML-conscious editors out there?
