E-mail for kids?

You can setup free email accounts (no home page) at:

     http://www.hotmail.com

      - or -

     http://www.rocketmail.com

My children (5, 8, and 12) have accounts on each. They log in through
the browser - we use Netscape 3.01 - and that means that the Mac angle
is no problem. Word of caution - the accounts are passworded, and you
have to decide whether you want your children to have an account that
you may not be able to access. It will not take any child long (our
12-year-old took about three minutes) to realize they can set up their
own account about which you will not know a thing - including that it
     exists.

There are ways to tell where they have been using Netscape tools - the
"about" series, for example. Email is somewhat riskier for children
than standard web pages - given the number of pedos that are on the
prowl in the chat and news groups. It's not a big risk, but I don't
want to be the parent who played "can't happen here." The rules in our
house are that they can disclose nothing in an email that they
wouldn't disclose over the phone - and that means don't talk with
strangers. They understand that the policy is one of zero-tolerance.

Hope the addresses are of help.

I think I need to clarify my request. My son wants his own e-mail
accoutn and homepage. I receive over a hundred e-mail messages a day
and so does my wife. We would prefer he has his own in and on a site
that is designed for kids. The same goes for a web page. I want him in
a site with other kids if possible.

A couple of people have suggest Juno e-mail. It is only avialable for
the PC environment. I have a MacIntosh at home. I alos looked at
HotMail but I am afraid that the ads might not be appropriate for a kid.
