Containment rather than filter?

Has anyone tried ANY kind of strategy to limit or contain certain
kinds of web activity to specific machines? For example, set aside
a machine or two or ? for "chat" or set aside a machine(s) for private
viewing away from the main bank of machines? Or how about a machine
with a sign "Surf for Smut Here!" and then refer folks looking at
potentially offensive sites to sign up for that machine? Well, maybe
I'm getting carried away. It's been a weird Monday.

The idea is to allow unimpeded (as long as it meets "appropriate use"
guidelines) access but limit that sort of access to some machines, not all.
One suggestion here is to add machines to the Student Center and limit chat
to that location, no chat in the library. Any recommendations?
