Reviewing Electronic Reference Sources Preconference Offered

"Reviewing Electronic Reference Sources" will be offered by the
Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) June 27, 1997,
8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., as a preconference to the American Library
Association Annual Conference in San Francisco. The
preconference is sponsored by the Materials Reviewing Committee
of the RUSA Collection Development and Evaluation Section.
Registration deadline is June 2, 1997.

The workshop presenter will be Cheryl LaGuardia, coordinator,
Electronic Teaching Center, Widener Lib., Research Services,
Harvard Univ., and CD-ROM reviewer for Library Journal. There
will also be small group sessions with editors of reviews of
electronic sources.

Workshop participants will learn the issues involved in reviewing
electronic products for publication and will receive hands-on
experience in writing reviews. Participants will learn how to
evaluate an electronic product, find out how to contact sources
that use outside reviewers, will work with review editors from
library publications and will write their own review of a
preselected electronic product.

Registration fees: $90 ALA/RUSA members; $135 ALA members; $183
nonmembers (also includes membership in RUSA). Fee includes
syllabus, handouts and beverage breaks. Lunch is on your own.

For complete information and registration form, visit the RUSA
Web site at http://www.ala.org/rusa/preconf.html or contact RUSA
