> Department: Henry Madden Library, Systems Office

> Salary Range: $3,219 - $3,878 per month

> Position Assignment:
> Under the general supervision of the Head of Library Systems, the individual
> selected will serve as a resource person for UNIX support functions in a
> heterogeneous computing environment. The Systems Office provides support for
> all computing needs of the Library including Geac/ADVANCE library
> applications with UniVerse DBMS, Windows/NT-based PC-LAN, and all other
> office and Internet applications. Specific responsibilities will include:
> Administration of servers in UNIX, Sun OS/Solaris, and Windows/NT;
> operations support for UNIX-based applications and for PC/Windows user
> applications in a networked environment with CD-ROM LAN and towers;
> installation and customization of utilities and services; troubleshooting
> network problems in liaison with the campus Computing Services; and tracking
> industry trends in support of library and information technology.
> 
> Qualifications Required:
> Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four (4) year college or
> university. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for a
> maximum of two (2) years of the required education on a year-for-year basis.
> A degree in computer science, engineering, telecommunications, or a related
> technical field is preferred. Experience Required: Equivalent to two (2)
> years of progressively responsible experience in operating systems including
> UNIX; experience in C and shell programming; experience in network
> administration and support; experience with internetworking UNIX and other
> operating systems (e.g. Windows/NT); strong interpersonal and organizational
> skills with disciplined approach in documentation; and proven track record
> of project completion; Desired: Proven expertise in maintaining Internet
> applications (e.g. WWW, HTTP server); and experience with UNIX in all its
> manifestations. Knowledge and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of operating
> systems and software design; knowledge of UNIX and programming languages
> including C; ability to analyze and determine the source of system software
> and hardware problems; ability to organize and carry out multi-task
> assignments in a timely manner; and ability to establish and maintain
> effective working relationships with an ethnically and culturally diverse
> campus population. Availability to work outside scheduled hours during
> system maintenance checks, system upgrades, and system crises.
