POSITION:       Library Network Manager
                University of Oregon Library System

RANK:		Instructor (renewable, fixed-term contract, faculty status)

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Reports to the Head of the Library Systems and Automation Department and
is responsible for the technical support of microcomputers; Novell and WWW
servers; and other network services used by Library patrons and staff. 
Duties include but are not limited to: leadership and technical support
for staff microcomputers and networked Library services through
collaboration with University Computing faculty and staff, campus LAN
managers, and Library Information Technology Center faculty and staff;
maintaining currency with network and microcomputing developments and
products;  supervising hardware and software upgrades, purchasing, and
maintenance of a wide variety of Macs, PCs, multimedia workstations,
networked printers, scanners, and networked CD-ROM; providing technical
support for access to INNOPAC systems (Janus and Orbis), OCLC (Passport,
FirstSearch, etc.), Lexis/Nexis, RLG (Eureka, ARIEL), and other library
resources; managing Novell NetWare 4 servers and WWW servers; developing
network and microcomputer user documentation.  Teaches network and
microcomputing workshops to students, faculty, and staff; depending on
term schedule, may teach credit courses through Library Instruction
program.  Hires and supervises students performing microcomputer support
activities; serves as lead worker for Library network and microcomputer
support staff. 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: B.S. or B.A. degree (preferably in computer science or a related
field); excellent interpersonal communication skills; extensive experience
in DOS PC, Windows PC, Macintosh, and Power Macintosh hardware purchasing,
upgrading, maintenance and repair; extensive experience in application
software support; extensive experience with MS Windows and Mac OS and
their relationship with Novell NetWare 3.x or better, TCP/IP, IPX, and
Ethernet.  Ability to work productively on one or more cross-departmental
faculty teams.  Desired: Novell NetWare 4 expertise in a mixed platform
environment;  awareness of and previous involvement in campus network and
microcomputer support issues; experience supervising students, teaching,
or working in an academic library. 

SALARY:
$32,000 minimum.  Appointment beyond the minimum salary will be dependent
upon qualifications and prior experience.  Benefits include choice of
medical plans (Blue Cross/Blue Shield or HMO options), state or TIAA/CREF
retirement plans, 22 vacation days, and low staff tuition rates for
continuing education.
